Well, one has to balance risk and reward -- there aren't any absolute rules or standards for this sort of thing. There are people who absolutely won't use credit cards because that allows their activities to be too easily tracked and correlated and are worried sick about credit card fraud (which credit card companies have done a masterful job of spin- controlling to get people to think is "identity theft", which it isn't), and others who will only use cash for everything [I tried that once on a business trip -- let me tell you it is beaucoup hard renting a car if you don't have a credit card..:o)]. For me, for example, I don't use ANY of quicken.com's online services -- I didn't particularly want Quicken to have my financial stuff, but I trust my bank [through whom I get my online bill pay], so that's within my risk threshhold, and the convenience is super [by my standards]. Your MMV on both sides of that equation. Note that I did the same that you did with paypal: I happened to have an account I don't use for anything, so I put $20 in it and use THAT as my paypal "verification" acct [but I use my credit card only, never a direct- withdrawal, so the $20 just sits there]. And then there's online shopping -- that's an area of risk that I'm pretty comfortable with but that others fret about: using their credit card over the internet gives them the willies [and that harks back to a previous generation who had similar fears about using their credit card over the phone]. By contrast, for example, I know many people who have no qualms about using gmail for all of their email, but I wouldn't *THINK* of doing such a thing and having all of my [personal and business] email on a basically public server. You may trust Googol and gmail, but I don't... Clearly, we all have our own security taboos...:o) /Bernie\ -- Bernie Cosell Fantasy Farm Fibers mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Pearisburg, VA --> Too many people, too few sheep <-- -- ---------------------------------------- To Change your email Address for this list, send the following message: CHANGE WIN-HOME your_old_address your_new_address to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Note carefully that both old and new addresses are required.
