I don't know of any OS that reveals its full power through a GUI. The GUI dumbs down the OS and makes it appear to be accessible to all users. There are may things one cant's do in Windows through the GUI, and the Mac OS is no different in this sense. There are many GUI based tools that reveal much of the under the surface goings on in the Mac OS, but it still is weak compared to the command line.

My early computing & CADD years was on AT&T UNIX therefore I don't believe a lack of knowledge is the problem.

Actually that surprises me coming from you and it is just untrue. In
OS X just open terminal and you can do and see whatever you want.

I was speaking from the GUI since we're talking about a new GUI. I don't know of any OS that one can't get to a Command Prompt & find out all they want but that sort of beats the purpose of having a GUI in the 1st place doesn't it?
