You can use drives connected to both (P)ATA and SATA at the same time.
You can use any disk cloning software you wish.

Subject: copying old ata to sata

greetings : i have just been given by a customer a new motherboard (ecs
k8t890-a) that has both sata and parallel ide connectors on it, along
with a new maxtor(seagate) 200gb sata150 hard drive. he wants me to
duplicate his old 13gb ata drive's data onto the new 200gb unit. the
drive comes with maxblast4 software on cd, and i would like to be able
to do as i am so used to doing with wd drives, simply set up the drive
and have it, while formatting, copy everything from the old drive. i am
unsure if you can even use sata and ide at the same time, and if so, if
such a clone process is possible. help, please?
