Also, if you can get Fedora to boot again, and to see the hard
drive, try running smartctl, and dump the SMART data looking for
signs of failure.  Then tell smartctl to run a long self test,
and see if it turns up any errors.  There are probably dos-based
utilities with similar functionality, perhaps available from
the drive manufacturer.
