Subject: PowerPoint and video question - tricky

Hi All,

Another: trying to help a friend question. This one dealing with a very short video (few seconds) that is to be played as part of PowerPoint presentation, from withing PowerPoint.

The vide has .avi extension and looking at it with GSpot I get:
Codec: mp42
Codec Name: S-Mpeg 4 version 2

Another app reports:
Frame: 740x640 Codec FourCC MP42
Microsoft MPEG-4 V2

The video plays fine using media player on the target machine, which I'm sure runs WinXP. I'm assuming that the version of PP is quite up to date. The video however does not play within PP on that specific PC.

Not to confuse things too much, I tried playing the video on my Win98 and Office97 PC and all works fine.

Here's the question:

Are there any filters that have to installed for PP to grab the decoder, which is already present on a given PC? The decoder (codec) is there, because media player can use it and play to video.

Regards,

Rich
