Exactly correct.   FYI and FWIW, I never use the MS search page to find
things in the MSKB.  Google works much better.   In this case:

Sorry, that's just not true. Even if every file in the directory is not
read-only, the box for the directory will be gray. (I have a directory
on my disk that contains a single non-read-only file. The directory's
read-only box is gray.) It's that way because the attribute does not
apply to directories.

Unfortunately I can't find anything on the Microsoft site that really
addresses this issue one way or the other.
