It's not likely to need much more power for the new drive than it did for
the old then again the BIOS/motherboard may not support a drive that large
limits seem to be variously 80, 120, 135, 137 (Needs EnableLargeLBA) 160,
200, and 250Gb etc. on through 300, 400

Maybe there is a bios upgrade for that mysterious model at the eMachine website.

That (BIOS firmware update) is cheapest,
but a good bet would also be an UltraATA100 controller card.
Mostly since they are obsolete (cheap),  and drivers come built-in WinXP (in 
most cases)
for almost all card chipsets...

An UltraATA133 controller card would be my second choice. (They are also going 
the
way of the buggy whip too...)

I recently got a SATA150 controller card with 2) serial ports and one PATA port
(for two drives).  I had some VERY odd booting problems with that card, so I'm
not going to say much about them...
