To answer your questions, she doesn't have another machine to try it on. Plus, moving hardware in and out is a big deal for her. It does seem suspicious that both the original (at least 2 yrs old) and the one she bought a couple of months ago do not burn. She has tried Nero which came with the new burner, and Sonic Record Now (?) which she bought. Now that I think of it, it must have worked once because she burned the restore disks. But she isnt sure they are any good and said she'll buy a new set from Best Buy. I would think she has to format first and reinstall clean. She wont like that.

As for is it really a burner? Definitely yes to both machines.

Ok, just very general question here. My cousin has an HP desktop with=20

I have no idea if it ever worked since she isnt one to do any backups. She0
bought a brand new DVD burner but had the same problem.. HP told her
that it is a "system failure" or something similar to that. They said the =
only
fix is to reinstall the operating system again.
Does this sound right to you?

Thanks, Karen=

Could be? WIn2K at one time didn't have ASPI which is required to use CD
writers/readers so you could have an ASPI layer problem however, will the=
unit work on another machine?

What would be the problem if you had to rebuild the OS?

What software is she using to burn with?

$64K - is it a burner she has?
