Hi Marc,

There is no Wifi or Bluetooth functionality in the FP reader. It does have a USB interface, but only for loading its IP address from a memry stick. All it can handle is a simple TCP/IP-based protocol. We just (ha!) need something to replace 20 meters of cable with a thru-the-air deal. (blinding flash of light in my brain!) OR a thru-the-power-network deal! I'll borrow a couple of these adapters from a friend, & try them!

Regards,

Richard.be

You'd need to get a WiFi card any brandname WiFi 802.11a or b
standard will do. Namely LinkSys or Netgear. You also need to check to
see if your finger-print reader is Wifi or bluetooth capable that either supports
802.11a or b standard.

Since you just want the PC to connect to the finger-print reader via wireless connection an ad-hoc mode will be good since you don't need a router to connect
the two wireless devices.

Hi,

At work, we have a Sagem finger-print reader (sophisticated push-button!)
built into one of our automatic doors, ready for a trade fair. FP data is
downloaded to it via a LAN cable (TCP/IP) from the PC which runs the
enrollment program. There is no router or modem involved.

What we (I!) want to do is cut out the cable & add in a Wifi link, so that
the PC can stay on a table in a corner of the booth, & so that we don't have
the risks associated with a cable running under the floor of the booth
(previous bad experience!).

Doe anyone have an idea of how to do this?

TIA,

Richard.be
