I just came back from a trip to Office Depot where I tried out
a bunch of different laptops. What I didn't like about the
Toshibas is that when you press keys the middle of the
keyboard, it flexes up and down quite a bit. Lenova's were
much better in that regard, while the HP/Compaqs were in between.
As far as reliability, it's a crap shoot. Of two HP Pavilion
laptops I bought my kids almost three years ago, one is
still going strong, while the other was nothing but trouble
from day one. It had multiple hard drive and motherboard
failures. My Compaq Presario has been doing well for
10 months so far. Before that, I had Dell Inspirons that
died shortly after the two year warranty was up.
