So for those of you who have been playing along my 6 yr old pc seemingly died after a simple battery replacement. Battery turned out good. Kindly comment on the order of putting this back together. I was going to start with just the AGP graphics card, the monitor and the battery and no memory and then one at a time put back the three memory sticks. If this is correct in what order should I be adding the keyboard, mouse, modem etc and where in that order do the other PCI cards come in as well as the hard drives. TIA.

You will probably need at least one stick of mem to start with. I usually leave the video card out (if possible) and make sure ALL power leads not going to the mb (or a cpu fan, but these normally come from the mb) are unplugged from their respective devices. Depending on the mb, you should get some beeps that indicate video was not detected. At that point I add the video card, and maybe the kb and try again. If the bios comes up, you may want to reset it to defaults, and then go through it to change the more obvious things, like the date and so on. If it still comes up, then add the hd. But everybody does things differently, so YMMV and all that.

BTW I have had this happen to me more than I care to remember. It's not very frequent, but enough to know that it's usually something that has been ever so slightly jostled. But I have not had a dead mb yet from changing the batt, even if they **appear** that way.
