Yep,

When investigating, and 'fixing' stuff onsite
I take backups and frequently ask the user to actually sign a permission for
me to alter their system, and agreeing that they have the authority to not
only give me permission to attempt to get their system working (in a better
manner) but that they also accept responsibility for any damage or loss of
data or the system as a result of asking me to work on the system.

Then I tell them - yes, when it comes to protecting data, I not only have a
yellow streak, but it's also wide and day-glow.

Makes them think about their data - and usually maintain a better backup
regime.
