Well I just booted up the laptop at the house and the resolution reverted
back to it's native setting.  Monday when I get back to work I'll plug it
back in to see if it then goes back to the other setting.

FWIW it's just a 50.00 Belkin 2 Port switch.  Hopefully that will support
what you all mentioned.
