First thing is to backup your data from the hard drive and make sure that
its a good error-free backup. You can use Nero, Ghost and other backup software
that you choose. Use either single layer DVD (4.7GB) or DL DVD (8.4GB) only if
you
have DL DVD disk and a DL DVD burner handy.
I prefer DL DVD disk to backup my data as both my PC and gateway laptop have DL
DVD burners.
Then install Windows XP Pro and let it convert your HD partition(s) to NTFS if
you haven't
done so in using Windows XP Home. This is a painless process provide if you've
backup your data
first before proceeding.

Is it possible to upgrade an existing computer running XP Home to XP Pro
without losing applications and data?
If so, is there anything special that has to be done?
Thanks.
