What do you know - it works!
dd if=/dev/cdrom of=/file/name
modprobe loop
losetup /dev/loop0 /file/name
then using winsetup add /dev/loop0 as a CD-rom drive.
Presto, 600MB of your HD space gone, no CD noise, instant file access,
and you can put the CD in a cool, dry, dark space for future use...
(Assuming, of course, that you compiled your kernel with loop
support....)
