Hi,
I am having trouble with Outlook 98 on win4lin 2.0. It seems to be related
to interactions with Internet Explorer 5.5.
Symptoms:
Outlook seems to run fine until I start up IE 5.5. Then the next time
Outlook tries to download new mail from a pop server, it hangs up. The mail
delivery process never completes. If I exit Outlook, it fails to completely
exit and has to be killed via the "close program" dialog. Then if I start
up Outlook again, it fails to run with a GPF in winsock.dll. (winsock.dll
points to /opt/win4lin/mwin95/winsock.dll).
Details of my setup:
RH 6.2 with patched 2.2.16-3 kernel.
Windows 95 (OSR2) loaded into win4lin from native Win 95 partition (per
win4lin 2.0 release notes).
Office 97 installed followed by upgrade to Outlook 98 from CD.
IE 5.5 then installed from downloaded files.
Critical updates applied from Microsoft via IE windows update function.

Since my main reason for buying win4lin was to run Outlook and IE (and
sometimes Office), this problem is rather a major one. For awhile I was
running a similar set of programs on win4lin 2.0 with Windows 98 SE without
these problems, but I would much rather use Windows 95 since the performance
is much better on my fairly slow laptop. 98SE was pretty sluggish at times.
Win 95 is a lot snappier (if I can manage to get the programs I want to run
reliably!).
I've tried fixWindowsSymlinks and had IE repair itself via it's setup
program, to make sure that there wasn't something installed incorrectly in
IE, but these actions haven't helped.
Any ideas what to try next?
Scott
