I've been able to get OSS and Win4Lin and the VMWare stuff to compile
together just fine. VMWare requires no kernel patches, and the modules
are built after the kernel is up and running. I've had no conflict with
OSS and Win4lin. I've also added other patches, like Promise UDMA 66 with
no probs. I build the kernel win win4lin support first, get it running,
then run vmware-config.pl to build the modules. Note that the
/usr/src/linux symlink must point to the correct source tree with a
Makefile in it that is the same version number as the running kernel.
Otherwise modules may not build or not load.
In my experience, enabling the win4lin kernel patch does not inhibit the
ability to build vmware modules or prevent any kind of installation. I'm
not sure what you mean then you say vmware installed will cause win4lin
install to fail.
