okay, that turned out to be the problem. apparently the /dev/scd0-9
files were mod 660, owner 'root', group 'cdwriter'. i don't honestly
know if it was this way originally, or when i burned a cd image
using cdrecord. i can now access the cdrom okay, but the Device
Manager is still showing the cdrom device as having a problem,
claiming the driver isn't installed. Do I just ignore this?
