The box sets will be available for purchase from our site, within a few
days. We have a distributor, that made all our box sets, including cds and
manuals). It is hard to predict the exact delivery dates to stores. Once is
leave's Digital MacMillans docks, it could start showing up any time. Linux
Central is selling it, they beat us to the punch. We should have it up
within a few days. If I'm not mistaken we weren't scheduled to get stock
late this week.
Since Larry brought it up, this is a good time to set the stage for
registration and licenses. To date we have three versions of Win4Lin, and
there will be three different license and registration methods. With the
structure that is going into version 3, there won't be a need for a fourth
(at least not for a while). In other words it's more robust, user friendly
and easier to support. With Win4Lin 3.x you will receive a License Code. The
installation will prompt you to enter that License Code. Win4Lin will build
it's license from that information provided, providing the license code is
valid.
Let's say you purchased Wi4nLin 3.0, you install it using the license code
provided. This will give you full access to use Win4Lin. There is another
piece in the installation, that will ask you to register online. If you
choose to register your license online, you will be prompted to enter some
additional information. Upon successful completion of your registration, you
will receive an email containing a login and password to the NeTraverse
site. Another phase of the installation will prompt you to go online and
check for updates. In order to obtain the online updates, you must be
registered. The installer can make this determination.
Back to the web site login. When you log into the web site, you will be able
to obtain software in the event you need to recover your system. You will
also be able to view your license codes that you purchased. We will be able
to give you additional benefits as they arise.
Not only did the software download need additional features that weren't
necessary for the cd, but the web site needed quite a bit of work to support
all this. Then we have to tie the upgrade registration pages into all this,
as well as make them as automated as possible, so we don't have to review
every current Win4Lin customer before giving the upgrade. There will still
be some cases where we will not be able to verify automatically, but the
form will let you know that ahead of time.
There is a real danger in not getting it right the first time. That is not
to say everything will be problem free. Hopefully everyone realizes any
statement otherwise would be very bold and not too realistic. Rather, any
problems that do pop up should not be wide spread, and can be readily fixed
or worked through.

Mike Badger
