I downloaded the installer and ran it. The process died at ~80%
completion. I looked around in /var/win4lin/installer_tmp and found
that Win4Lin-5.2.1b-d.i386.rpm had been placed in that directory.
I converted that rpm to a .deb with alien and installed it with dpkg.
The installation completed without any error messages (unlike the
win4lin 2 upgrade). The postinstall script appears to have been run.
The problem is that when I try to run 'win', I get the following error
message:
touch: creating '/home/nielsen/.merge/win.sh.log': Permission denied
/bin/win: winconfig: command not found
/opt/win4lin/bin/chk_lic_file: /opt/win4lin/charconv: No such file or directory
An error was found in a configuration
file. Default values are being used
instead of the illegal values. Run
winconfig
to correct the configuration file
It looks like the symlinks from to /opt/win4lin/publicbin weren't created.
There are symlinks to /opt/win4lin/publicbin/win and
/opt/win4lin/publicbin/dos, but they are dated January 1 (left over
from the older version?)
It looks like something didn'g get installed correctly, even though
dpkg thinks the installation completed.
I changed the ownership of ~/.merge from root to the user and the first
message goes away, but the
/opt/win4lin/bin/chk_lic_file: /opt/win4lin/charconv: No such file or directory
error still gets generated (there is no /opt/win4lin/charconv).
Has anyone successfully installed version 3 on a Debian system? What
else do I need to do?
Bob
