OK - finally got it installed. Problem was in it reading the cd.
/dev/cdrom is linked to a scsi device, but that wasn't working (more on that
in a sec) so I had been pointing it to /dev/hdd, and it recognized that that
was a source of windows files, but choked after that. I mounted /dev/hdd
manually and pointed the install to the mount point, and it rolled on.
Watching it boot up I noticed that there were lots of unresolved symbols
messages relating to scsi during the boot. They don't appear in dmesg, or
/var/log/messages, but /var/log/messages does have a bunch of modprobe
couldn't find messages. alot of them relating to a char dev - is this where
the scsi load is failing? Haven't tried it yet, but pretty sure I'm going
to need the cd set up as a scsi device for cd burning. Next thing to try?
