But when you have been able to install win4lin you must have been able to run 
the installer al least ones. Perhaps at this point the installer updated 
itself and was not be able to run at next start.
Have you ever tried to run the installer from your original win4lin download 
directory (if you still have it, I keep such things for a while)? For the 
first days I didn't realize that the installer also intalled to opt/win4lin 
and always run the installer from my home directory and worndered then why it 
always found an updated version  :-)
