Just to update this problem, I went and downloaded the drivers
from lexmark's web page, and installed from that. The thing seems
to go right to the end but just as it was placing the icon into
the printer control window, win4lin just hung and I had to reboot
it.
In contrast, I did install an EPSON 850 without problems.
I should add that both these printers are network printers
attached to linux boxes (what else?). I am using the older tcp
network technique, not the virtual network.
