Sometime ago I have signalled the slowness of version 3 in comparison with
version 2. Someone has told me that 128Mo was really not enough for Mandrake8 +
Win4Lin. I have followed this suggestion and upgraded my machine to 256Mo and
now Win4LIn works very nicely and nearly at native speed (with 128Mo). I
imagine that this was due to the fact that before theupgrade Linux was using
the swap to give Win4Lin the 64Mo memory I have allocated. This slows down a
lot the system.
At the other hand, the Win4Lin manual discourages to give 64Mo to windows. But
even with the new configuration the memory disapeears very quickly with heavy
applications like JBuilder 4 for Win98. So 64 Mo is not luxury for this kind of
software.
I wanted to tell you the positive result of this experiment. I hope the
performance will even get better with the update to 3.04 when it will be
available.
Best regards,
Murat
