NeTraverse's responses in this forum are useful and informative.
I'll try the patch again on pristine sources and see what happens.
I still haven't figured out why my "boxes instead of leters" problems are
occurring or how to fix them. I may do a fresh install of Mandrake on a test
system so I can start from scratch.
