I think the bottom line is that if it's the right one for you then it's the right one for you. The price shouldn't always be the governing factor. But it saddens me that the first time somebody mentions a product like this, it's usually the case that the first response seems to be somebody putting the cost at the top of their list. When I shop for products like this I look at the cost as a secondary concern, and the functionality and how it would fit into our topography as the first. But the point Dane made here is a good one, that being simplicity and compatibility. Oh yes, Sarah, and remember that the US model of the Fritz!Stick is obviously going to be configured for US consumers so it will broadcast and receive within your RF spectrum.
The reason we considered the option is that we do own 2 of these Fritz!Box routers. But weighing up the pros and cons, just at the moment we don't have a need for an external adapter. I have 3 PC's now, all either Netbook or Notebook variety. Each one of them has Wireless-N and with the exception of my NetBook, they both have USB3.0. The one reason why I said to Lynne that it wouldn't really fit our topography at the moment is merely because of the fact that our NoteBooks only have 4 USB ports on them and, thinking about it, I seem to remember that my work machine which is an HP Pavilion G6, only has 3. It seems a little redundant to me to be honest, when they've got internal adapters which work well. But it's certainly an option for a later time if we acquire any further machines and if they don't meet the grade as far as Wi-Fi is concerned. Again though, Sarah is correct that most modern notebooks and NetBooks come fitted with Wireless-N dual-band adapters. But from memory, I believe that the advantage of the Fritz! Stick is its ability to "Extend" a Wi-Fi network. aS such, and please do correct me if I am wrong, it can act as a hub for another machine which is certainly not within the mandate of a bog-standard notebook's capability.
