Actually, Dean is not the only one who felt that there was bias for WalMart in WDN reporting. I know someone who is fairly neutral on the issue and read the articles then exclaimed that the articles read as though WalMart paid for the articles. Note: this is NOT meant to imply that reporters were really paid by WalMart or that WDN reporters are not honest in their reporting. However, there are many people who feel that there is bias in the reporting.

I do hope that people begin to look at what they want Winona to be in 5 years, in 10 years. I hope that we have a better vision for our city than to be simply another of many anonymous communities dominated by strip malls and big boxes, with no regional flavor. We also need to keep in mind that with all large chains, all decisions are made far away from Winona, to profit those who live far away from Winona. The decisions will not be made here and the money will not stay here.

I do understand why people want to have a grocery store in the east end. I don't understand why it must be connected with a WalMart, or why that would even be desirable. I don't really understand if it is such a good idea, why it hasn't happened already.

Good, fair, reporting in the Sunday WDN about Wal-Mart.

You're kidding, right?
Except for a couple early articles written by Rick Dankert (sp) the WDN stories read like they have been written by the Wal-Mart PR staff
