[Winona Online Democracy] I realize that Dixieland Jazz is a small piece of the music world. We have, nevertheless, successfully held 15 annual festivals outdoors each summer. The only way to add other types of music would be to enlarge the event to a two or three day format. It would probably require different venues and a lot more volunteer help. We have no full time personnel, no expensive bands, no big name attractions, but the music is good and there is a good local and area set of fans that look forward to it every year. Most of the attractions that are being mentioned rely on heavy expenses. I find that Winona does not have the audience for big-expensive attractions. Our population is not quite big enough. We are a niche community, and our festival has recognized that and tried to keep that attraction in mind.
