Hello Winona Online Democracy,
In regards to the concept of Site Teams...
1. So much wonderful potential...
2. A LONG way to go to get there...
3. At the end of Randy Schenkat's e-mail, he mentioned a "decision matrix
of what was site, central office and board decisions" that was created at
some point in the past.
If that document could be found and resurrected, I think that would be a
huge help for many people. When I served on the High School's Site Team,
that was one of the biggest problems, if not thee biggest problem, "who has
what authority to do what and when?"
Enough said. I'm trying to hold my tongue on this one. (Believe it or not, I actually do that at times.)

Having observed two Site Team meetings at the high school, one of these for the school newspaper. (Dwayne wrote me the hall passes to do this.) I never wrote anything for the paper because the school administration had a nasty habit of censoring anything critical in nature. Rather than dealing with this questionable behaviour, I quit, since there was no way the administration would allow something like that to appear about those meetings and I was not going to sell my soul to have something in print that was untrue. I was appalled by the incredible ego clashing that went on at times and how it was more about egos and less about issues at times. I had a hard time believing "adults" would behave this way and ignore the reason why they where there. Often times I wondered what they were trying to accomplish and why they spent and hour and a half for this when a brawl "out back" would have accomplished the same thing much quicker. Yes, stuff did get done, but I was not left with a positive impression. Perhaps this has changed.
Maybe I should dig out my notebook with this in it and make a point or two with it on what a site team should not do.
