[Winona Online Democracy] Quoting Phil Carlson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:
"Martha Greenwald raises good questions. Both Winona County and the the City of Winona have comprehensive plans which describe their land use plans and transportation plans for areas in Wilson Township outside Winona proper. Both the County and City have planners on staff who would be able to answer your questions and provide copies of the plans, policies, agreements, etc." The main question raised seems to be how families can live the suburban lifestyle out in the countryside without being totally dependent on cheap oil for daily transportation via single occupant vehicles. I don't think you can, and I doubt that our local government considers that to be a problem. And speaking of planning. Do you, Mr. Carlson, know if traffic planners assume that motor vehicle usage trends will continue to grow into the future at the same average rate as they have since the interstate highway system was built? That would seem to simplify their job quite a bit. I don't recall the numbers, but the need to improve roads serving the Riverbend Retail Park (Wal-mart) is based on specific traffic projections.
