My apologies if you are doing your best to keep the harley bikers from being such a disturbance of the peace. But why keep it a secret? The periodic 'safe and sober' campaigns probably have a deterrent effect due to being publicized. Or, by being stopped for loud pipes, do you mean being stopped and ticked, or stopped and given a friendly admonishment to show a little restraint? There seems to be no hesitancy to spend big bucks on "race track use only" engine modifications and the ability to set off car alarms continues to be the standard of excellence for motorcycle exhaust systems. If having to actually pay a fine is out of the question, then if bikers were pulled over after bar closing for DUI inspection like drivers with defective tail lights and such, the word would spread and at least late nights would be quieter.

John, you seem to be painting  with a broad brush when you state the police are refusing to address the loud mufflers on cycles and trucks.  Just because you don't read about loud mufflers in the court convictions doesn't mean offenders aren't being stopped for such offenses.  I have used this reason to stop trucks and cycles many times and I know other officers have done so too.
