[Winona Online Democracy]

Politics have been a part of parades for many years past. That was a statement in WDN concerning the lack there of in Winona.

I say, just because something has been in the past, doesn't mean it still should remain. Today's parades are hours in length with all the floats, and entertaining thrills, and especially the marching bands.

I think whomever put this years parade did a great job. I didn't have to tollerate political candidates schpeals, and the bands were kept to a minimum. Just last year (2003) there were several bands from as far away as Albert Lea, (and I think the Cities). They spent most of their time standing still, and wooing the crowd to the right, and left, but spend less and less time walking straight forward.

Bottom line is this....Less bands, is a good idea, and if politics must be in a parade, have a political party float with their names on it....get them through asap so I can enjoy the better entertainment.

Pictures of this years grand parade are on winonaforum at http://www.winonaforum.com/steamboatdays2004/
