Howdy, y'all

My view on the parades is somewhat different than recent letters.  I would
like to see MORE politicians and bands participate and FEWER businesses and
other organizations.  Many of the latter are no better than a group of
people (often kids) doing nothing more than walking down the middle of the
street, some are blatant attempts to sell a product, and I get downright
annoyed at yet another radio station or bar blaring "popular" music at
maximum volume.  That's not entertaining.

At least the politicians and their supporters interact with the crowd, and
it does give us the opportunity to see the people asking to be allowed to
represent us without their finely-spun media images.  Having bands in the
parade allows our schools and our kids a much deserved opportunity to get
out into the community, and I particularly like having bands from other
cities.  Like any city, we benefit from interacting with other communities
and broadening our horizons a little bit.
