[Winona Online Democracy] Hello, I thought I would break up the popular discussion here on WOD regarding the schools, with another popular discussion, the annexation issues. Citizens for Responsible Community Growth (CRCG) Dear Neighbor, Citizens for Responsible Community Growth (CRCG) is an organization recently formed by your friends and neighbors in Winona. We are concerned citizens, just as you are, who want to see a change in how decisions are made regarding the growth of the Winona Community. Too often decisions that affect the entire community of Winona are not decided by a co-operative representation from all local governments, city, township and county. Instead the desires of one often overlook the needs of the others. Too often decisions to develop in Winona are not based on the necessary components that support development: � Environmental factors that affect our land and homes both in short and long term considerations � Rights and lifestyles of Citizens already living in the proposed development areas. � Tax base of local governments that will affect the way that government can serve its� constituents, which then impedes on the rights and lifestyles of others � The financial cost to taxpayers from all governing bodies to pay for developers to develop an area. � Decision not being based on need such as population growth, industrial growth, job growth, and available developable property already existing. � Lack of important consideration for the cost and time management of infrastructures needed to support new development, especially the increased cost for developments that are not contiguous to the City Limits. Currently, the focus of the CRCG is the proposed annexation areas of Wilson Township. Better planning for these developments will set a precedent for future developments. Small concentrated groups have broken off in these areas and set goals to help support this endeavor: 1. Communications � Education of the community through the media � Communication to other local government bodies � Raising awareness of all community members and promoting involvement 2. Gathering statistical information that will or will not support the need for growth 3. Gathering environmental information that does or does not support development of certain areas 4. Fundraising. We ask that each of you do your part to help our community.
