I have many questions in regard to Mr.
Nelson's guest view in Wednesday's paper.
I do not know where he got his
information but I wish he would have listed his sources.
We drive through Pleasant Valley everytime
we go to Winona. He states that there is
at least 1,000 feet of sight distance at the turn off to the Phillips
property. Well, he failed to meniton that there is a large bend in the
road for those of us coming down the valley just before the Phillips
property. If a child were crossing the road on a bicycle I am not sure a
vechile could stop after coming around the bend.
I am wondering why he states "More than
half of the residents of Winona County live within the city." If I
understand this sentence correctly he is stating that there are 27,000 people
within the city limits. (as posted on the sign when entering town). Ok,
does that mean in the entire rest of the County there are less than 27,000
people? I would like the sources for these numbers.
As per the enviormental damage, yes damage,
that will be done if this Phillips annexation goes through I am not sure I
have the words to describe how angry it makes me.
At a recent meeting we were told how
sensitive the trout stream is in this valley. Not to mention the slopes
of the land within the valley. Are we again being told by the City that
a development that causes traffic to increase to nearly
4,500 vechiles per day is not going to damage the
enviroment?
I think the City thought this annexation
would quietly get passed, you know kind of under the table so to speak, and
there would then be nothing anyone could do about it.
Well surprise! The citizens of Wilson
Township guided by excellent superviors rose up and said not in our
backyard. And those of us in neighboring townships feel the same
way.
We don't want developments in our backyard.
That is why we live in the country.
