It seems to me that if the students who "only rent" in our
community can't vote then we have an awfully lot of other people who wouldn't be
able to vote either.
To be fair, we would have to exclude from voting all
of our older citizens who live in the many housing facilities around town,
parents and other adult working people who rent houses or apartments, condo's,
and townhouses?
The students at our schools (including the 18 year olds at
Sr. High) have a vested interest in seeing that there is an educated
K-12 group of children moving into the Universities
and Technical Colleges just as the adults in this town do.
Maybe it takes the young people stepping up to the plate
to save us from ourselves. Selfish, short sighted and bitter as it seems
many are.
