As I try to be informative when I am not ranting
and raving, here are some statistics from the Minnesota Department of Education
for the two schools. The state listed 97 students in the school. I
understand Scott Hannon said 125.
Graduation Rates:
ALC 67% WSHS
97%
Special Ed Students: ALC
21% WSHS 14%
Free/Reduced Lunch: ALC
43% WSHS 26%
Attendance:
ALC
79% WSHS 97%
Just some info. As for Post Secondary
Enrollment Options it has been a great opportunity for students ever since I was
in high school...it's been around a long time...lol...but it is a loser for the
district since the aid follows the student. I would rather see our
district provide these high end courses. I dont think many use PSEO for
shop classes at SE Tech but I may be mistaken.
One other interesting statistic from the
state. We have 68 students in WAPS who have migrtated in through open
enrollment. We have 494 who have outmigrated to other districts. I
imagine this number only refers to those students who are in, for example, the
Lewiston public schools, not those who choose Cotter or Ridgeway. Does
anyone know?
One more point...If there truly is a prohibition
on competition among schools in the district, is it based on maintaining control
over student flow, as it were, so no one school was empty and another
full? We are certainly competing for students with parochial and charter
schools, as well as outlying districts.
