[Winona Online Democracy]

Mr. Woodford and others,

I hope I have not been understood to claim I am the one who dictates to WOD what should or should not be discussed - I have been a participant like many others and was simply repeating what I have understood to be the thrust of many discussions here: WOD was started to discuss Winona issues, but others issues - state, national or international - may come into the mix.  If I have interpreted these past discussions wrongly I apologize and stand corrected.

In discussing Winona issues there have often been quotes or full copies of Post and Daily News articles, or links to them.  If national issues can be also discussed, then it doesn't seem unreasonable that national articles could be copied or linked as well.

The other point I was trying to make is, regardless of whether we feel such discussions are within or outside the bounds of the organization, or whether we personally agree with or detest the content of these discussions, there is a way to communicate this that preserves respect for the individuals involved and for the idea of sharing different viewpoints.  One way to do that is to simply ignore things you disagree with; another is to point out respectfully that you disagree and why.

Phil Carlson, Mpls

Subject: [Winona] Dear winona forum

First,Phil Carlson. Maybe you need to clarify this to us once and for all, isn't this forum set up to discuss local and state issues? If you are saying this is a forum to cut and paste articles espousing views on world politics then I am obviously posting to the wrong board. I have always been under the auspices that this was to talk discuss air issues/concerns about local and state politics that affect winona and the area around it (obviously state/regional issues are also included in that). So, from what I am to believe form your statement is that this is a forum to discuss national politics, the mideast, the current presidential administration? I am confused because if I want to do that there are a myriad of blogs, yahoo boards etc. but anyway, I hope I am not being redundant in politely asking you to clarify this for us.
Second, Terri Hyle, I for the life of me do not know how my letter pointing out my concern for the validity for the letter writers sources could have "appalled " you but I sincerely appologize for offending your sensibilities...whatever they may be.
Thirdly, I appologize to the rest of the forum for if I am out of line for pointing out that cut n pasteing politically slanted articles on this forum which I thought was reserved for local/grass roots government type issues, is inappropriate. If Mr. Carlson infoms me that I am wrong, then I guess we are going to be having some debunking of common held liberal ideology here.

Regards

C. E. Woodford
Terri Hyle
