[Winona Online Democracy]

First off, thanks to Phil for bringing up Outfront Minnesota's annual Day at
the Capitol...the Senate deserves our thanks for preventing (thus far) this
repugnant Marriage Amendment proposal from coming to a vote...but all fair
minded people should remember this is not a done deal yet. I am still
amazed that Wisconsin lawmakers (they enacted the nation's first gay rights
law!) would enable this nonsense.

I also think state consitutional amendments are, ultimately, unconsitutional
at the federal level. If you will recall the high courts' overturning of
anti-sodomy stautes...their reasoning was that it is illegal to craft laws
(or presumably state consitutional amendments) that discrimate against
minorities based upon their defining characteristic.

Nonetheless, this barbaric attack upon a minority of our citizens sure does
bring 'em to the polls.

Believe it or not that's not why I'm posting...smiles. I wanted to tell
John that I, too, saw that item on Winona Radio's news page...and I decided
it proved once and for all that my opinions don't guide our reporters
reporting...lol!!!

I believe, though, that the mayor was refering to the well-designed parking
lot that would result from the demolition...not the use of explosive charges
for pyrotechnic effect.
