I think I used to be Dwayne Voegeli's biggest critic, at least to his face. I'm now one of his biggest fans because his actions follow his rhetoric, even when I disagree with him. He does sincerely listen to the concerns of others even those not in his district. He was the biggest supporter of rural landowner rights when Wilson Township was having a "discussion" with the city over annexation and he recognized the significant environmental impacts urban development would have in the sensitive targeted annexation areas and fought to protect them "under established law"! We'd be a greater country and community if we had more public servants with the ethics and integrity that Dwayne displays. As far as his Green Party roots go..... local party activists should be ecstatic with his performance as a commissioner. Where other local green activists have failed or alienated a large section of the greater community, Dwayne's gotten the whole community thinking greener, even fellow commissioners. Who could the Green's get who has earned the amount of respect across partisan lines that Dwayne has? The feedlot issue isn't Dwayne's fault, or the county boards fault for that matter. This issue could and would have been resolved 7 or 8 years ago when the county board of that time had established a feedlot study committee to review and make recommendations to the county board for improvements to the feedlot ordinance. There were a number of representatives of the environment serving on that committee. If memory serves me correctly almost half the committee quit because they weren't getting their way. Consequently, following county boards have been unable to reach a consensus in re-establishing the feedlot study committee. If those feedlot study committee members had not walked out those years ago, it's highly probable that we would have a more highly defined feedlot ordinance today. Those that disagree with the current adopted feedlot ordinance should work to change it through the legal and established process which is clearly outlined in the county zoning ordinance. Those who seek to change laws and ordinances arbitrarily and capriciously are the real danger to our community and our democracy.

Here's something to consider. The only elected Green on the County
Commission supports large-scale livestock confinement operations --
casting the deciding vote on two permits less than a year apart.

Ecological wisdom? BETRAYAL is the more accurate description.
Representing the antithesis of the green worldview, the local
Chamber of Commerce recently chirped, "Good call Commissioner!"
