[Winona Online Democracy]

This list has been very quiet lately; which is surprising considering the
election is less than a month away.
I am hoping that Mr Fellman is voted in. I am including his bio in this
email. We need a new school board who will not cater to the administration or
Winona State.

Greg Fellman's Bio

Greg Fellman - District 4 School Board Candidate

Greg came to Winona in the late 70's as a transfer student to WSU. He married
his wife Karen in 1979 and graduated from WSU with a double major in Business
Administration and Accounting in 1980.

Greg has been employed at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare in La Crosse since 1980
and for the past 12 years has been the Controller/Accounting Director.

He would bring 28 years of non-profit accounting experience with him to the
school board.

Greg's professional experience is relative to the school board in ways such as:

1. Both Franciscan Skemp and WAPS are public service organizations.

2. The largest expense of both entities is employee costs, followed by
facility expenses.

3. Both organizations are funded largely by outside agencies and are subject
to unfunded mandates.
Since 1986, the Fellman's have resided in Pickwick. Each of their 3 children
started out their education being home schooled before entering the WAPS system
through Dakota Elementary School, then WMS and graduating from WSHS. Greg
remains keenly interested in the school district as the next generation of
Fellman's is here! - he now has a granddaughter living in the district.

In the past, Greg has served the WAPS school system as a member of the Budget
Re-design team that was made up of community members, teachers, administrators
and school board members. Many of the ideas that continue to save the district
money are a direct result of recommendations that came from this committee.

A few years ago Greg also served on the Capacity Reduction committee, another
committee with broad WAPS and community-wide representation. His participation
and expertise in these areas fosters his continued interest in the district.
Greg would like to increase his commitment to the students, staff, and
community by becoming a school board member.

Greg's Priorities for the School Board:

1.. . First and most important is the role of the school board. It should be
an oversight board that makes decisions that are above board, transparent to
all and in the best interest of the whole district.
. The board needs to foster a good relationship between itself, the
administration, the teachers, and the students. All board members should be
willing to listen to all input and consider all options. WAPS should be the
district in SE Minnesota that teachers want to teach at and parents want to
send their children to.

. The students must be a priority - up to date curriculum and class sizes are
key - we should look at grade level buildings for all, not just 5th through
12th grades.

. We need to re-build trust, respect and cooperation in the community - this
can only be accomplished by accountability in:

a.. o Spending of taxpayers dollars wisely
o The quality of education we provide our children. The school board,
administrators and teachers all have these responsibilities and need to be
fairly and routinely evaluated on their performance.

b.. . There needs to be better long-range planning.
Vote for GREG FELLMAN for a common sense sustainable approach to educating our
students while providing accountability to the community.
