I guess that depends on where the message is destined.  If the sendee happens to be
on the same platform as the sender, then it might be handled internal to that system 
and 
never go out over SMTP.  It might be retreived via pop or web access.

In any case, as someone pointed out, off list, this is somewhat OT.
