Answering my own message ;) ... just played around with the DAT file again and found out that changing items in the file works, while adding at the bottom (like I was doing) won't. Sure enough, the moment I added something new in the [Application] filter area, at the top, my new filter showed up, and the last item in that list - though still in the file - got "pushed out" of the GUI availability ... just an FYI ...
