The speed of tg depends heavily on a number of factors, the most important
of wich are the CPU speed, the network card architecture (transfer type,
number of interrupts...) and the NIC driver. My experience is that on the
same machine results vary a lot with the card model, and sometimes just
upgrading drivers is useful.
Other considerations:
- it's a lot faster to get high bandwidth with big packets, because this
means less software processing, less interrupts and better PCI bandwidth
usage. If you're just interested in bandwidth and not in frame rate, use big
packets and you'll see better results.
- If you're using a reasonably new machine and network card, 132 Mbits is
quite low. However, do not hope to go over 250-300 Mbps with a standard
architecture like WinPcap, at least with small packets. If you want to do
better, use hardcore stuff like linux pktgen.
