Well…. I would not be able to help you out on the price; for that I recommend you contact one of the Airwave reps in San Mateo and they will be more than glad to help you out, even set you up with a demo and send someone out to help install it for you. As for the server, yes you need a server and they can provide one for you, or you can simply install the AMP software on a Dell server that you might have already on your campus (It is Linux based). The AMP can discover over any range of IP’s…. I have been able to get the AMP to discover across several Class C and Class B networks. And I am sure the folks at Airwave will be able to demo that for you. It is so user-friendly that even a business major can set it up J And when you are trying to manage over 400 AP’s from different vendors, it is so much easier to handle the management via one platform as supposed to multiple different AP managers that need to be on the same subnet or will only work if you are on the wireless segment. This AMP discovers, manages, monitors, alerts, and logs stats for most if not all vendors form the wired side as long as it can see the wireless segments (something you need to allow through your firewall) You will also need to allow the AMP to be able to use certain ports through the firewall, that is if you are blocking them in the first place... If there is a specific AP that is not currently managed by the AMP, they will do their best to get the AMP to recognize the AP and move on from there. Some neat features are being able to detect the channels of all the AP’s in the same area and notify you if there are too many AP’s on the same channel, you can create groups and set a minimum Firmware requirement on all the AP’s (vendor specific) you get the firmware from the web site, upload it to your Amp and set the requirements for all vendor AP’s and then push out the upgrade!!!! The only thing I am waiting for is the next release of code that will allow dual card support.

If you need to contact them you can send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] or [EMAIL PROTECTED] I am sure they will be able to assist you more than myself.

Thanks,

Ok.  Now you have me interested in this product.  I’m testing out the Cisco WLSE 2.5 right now.  If you don’t mind me asking, how much is the Airwave solution and does it require any extra hardware like wireless agents, servers, etc?  Our campus is totally Cisco and it is split into several subnets.  Will it discover across subnets from a single point?

Thanks,

I have been using the AMP for some time now and have no complaints. I use the AMP to manage over 400 AP’s of multiple vendors. I have talked to different vendors who also recommend using the AMP as the management instead of their AP manager, simply because the Airwave AMP can handle other vendors and is not restricted to vendor type. The support team is great and has been extremely helpful; their response time is instant with no delays.

Thanks,

Hi,

I'd like to hear and get opinions from anyone who has deployed the AirWave products AMP-E and RAPIDS-PE.

Thanks
