We use VLSM and we are constantly shift subnets around to accommodate increasing numbers of devices even on the wired side.

By vlsm, I only meant variable length subnet masks. A /29 subnet provides enough numbers for interconnects, NAC, and other network devices related to the backbone without the waste.
