We too have been successfully running the 7.5 release in our test environment.  But we just loaded it onto our production controllers this morning.  So far we haven't seen any issues.  We did test HA for several weeks and experienced no problems with that feature.  The SSO failover was quite nice....now if we only had enough hardware to implement it for all of our production controllers :)

We usually hit all of the corner case WLC bugs with things like IPv6 and our multicast IPTV system here at Weber. With that said, I've been quite happy running 7.5 since May in two of our buildings. We're rolling it out to all of our main WLCs this week. I'll report back if I hit any show stoppers. (Disclaimer goes here that we don't use any of the HA features.)

As far as advice to downgrade/sidegrade/punt during a beta test, this isn't something that should be taken as a black mark on a released version. That is what beta tests are for and why Cisco always stresses not to run beta code in mission critical infrastructure. It usually doesn't get talked about much in public forums like this because of the NDA that covers Cisco beta tests.

If anyone is on the fence, chat up your account team or stick back a code version so you can benefit from all of us crazy folks that like to (and need to) run the latest code.

Good morning,

Here at TCU, we test beta code for Cisco.  We uploaded one of our WISM controllers to 7.5 about two months ago, but within 24 hours Cisco called and advised me to roll the code back.

Our Cisco Lab manager advised to avoid that release like the plague, as it has many client service effecting bugs.

Been waiting for 7.4MR1 ever since.

Currently we are testing 7.4.100.116. The Apple TVs are working just fine in a very limited deployment. However we are still guiding our Fac/Staff to use AirServer instead.

With that said….

I thought I’d send out this link:

It’s an alternative to using Apple TV’s in the Educational space.

We have not tested them on our network yet, so I cannot guarantee these will completely work in our environment or yours.

Plus I was told that the AM-100 is not even available to ship, until September 2013.

Just thought I’d share, in case you haven’t seen this device before.  I believe it was demo’d at Cisco Live this year too.

TCU is considering using the Crestron Air Media product in the near future for instructional purposes.

Have a great day.

I kind of understand that, but if your PI is a vm just take a snapshot of your 1.3 in case you want to rollback to upgrade to 2.0.  Although I’m not sure what 2.0 is going to be bringing in it.  The ap support isn’t as big as the mdns enhancements and the device profiles that you get in 7.5 in my opinion, but everyone environments/requirements are different.  Unfortunately for me apple tv display mirroring has become a huge issue here so I’m pretty much forced to go 7.5 route.

One of the reasons that I’m holding off is the requirement for Prime Infrastructure 1.4, which has the warning of “PI 1.4 will not be directly upgradable to one of the major release of the product and might have to wait for the following major release to be able to upgrade.”  Since I don’t need compatibility for the four new APs supported with the release, I’m going to hold off on it.

I’m curious as to what their reasons are for not going to it.

Well, my Cisco wireless folks are suggesting NOT upgrading to it.  They’re saying stay with 7.4.110.0.

How "stable" is 7.5.102 considered?

Has anyone else played around with the new Cisco code? The biggest feature that I see that they added is APs are now able to see and repeat mDNS advertisements. Now you can plug an AppleTV in on any subnet and the wireless system sees and reflects it to all wireless. Very cool.

What’s not very cool is the fact that none of my iDevices see the same list of AppleTVs and for the life of me I can’t figure out why or even how. Some devices see the same AppleTVs, some see others, some don’t. Cycling Airplay on the AppleTV doesn’t make a difference.  And ideas on how to make this more consistent?
