Look at the many suggestions on this discussion. A simple thing for you would be to get one of the Linksys amplifiers ($100) and a sutable antenna, Connectors & cable for less than another $150.00. This will require about 10% more skills than required by someone using the Shop at home network.
A pair of Antenna alone can get the basic linksys WAP to over one mile. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, January 21, 2003 7:27 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [BAWUG] (no subject) I could really use some help. I am trying to boost my Linksys BEFW11S4 Router signal. I have been researching this for hours and found many alternatives BUT I have not found one that I know will work. My main goal is to boost the signal from my apartment so that I can reach it on campus. This is not just for me, I am doing a report on Wireless networking for a class and if it goes well I may be able to spark enough interest in it to get wireless going at my university. SO, My linksys signal currently reaches about 400 feet. Now I would like to boost this to about of a mile. If I can boost it any farther that would be wonderful but I'll take what I can get. So My questions are: -What would be the best way for me to boost my signal the most? -How much will it cost? -Will this damage my router? -and how far of a reach is 12dbi or 8 dbi. Can some one shed some light on estimated distances? I tried the Pringles can idea but to no avail, the hardware store did not have the parts I needed and Radio Shack is Useless out here. Please feel free to contact me [EMAIL PROTECTED] I can use any information for my own use and/or for my report.
