It probably is.
How far are you going?
What are the voltages at the beginning and end of the cable?
Have you calculated the voltage drop?
Are you using paralleled pairs for voltage? If not, then do that.
What is the gauge of the wire and the length of the run, and are you using the factory power supply?
According to my web page http://ralphfowler.com the power chip inside can work on as little as 3 volts. I did not verify that the AP would, though.
Maybe I'll try that and add it to the article.
Before I do a POE installation on something that was not factory set up for it, I test it all in one room using a spool of CAT5 wire (actually a big coil of it) that is about the length I plan to run. I have successfully remoted the Cisco 340 series as well as the D-link DWL-900AP+
