Ralph,

Thanks for your help. What's the most stable firmware
level? I have 2.2.
ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Wireless/DWL900AP+/Firmware
shows 2.50 and 2.52.

6.5V at the beginning, 7.8V at the end (no load)

No

I'm using the Seattle Wireless proposal (at
http://www.seattlewireless.net/index.cgi/WiringProposal)
which is a modification to the NYC Wireless POE
standard.

It's Unicom MR5E-4P100-BL and they are silent about
the gauge. The wires are solid and the manufacturer
says nice words like "With a minimum of 3dB headroom,
it meets and exceeds TIA/EIA-568-A Category 5e
standards"

It's about a 40' run.

The 5V 2A factory wall wart didn't have enough guts so
I replaced it with a 6.5V 2.5A unit.

I think you are right about low voltage. In default
configuration (power saving mode enabled and auto
select antenna) it's stable. If I disable power
saving mode or select left antenna, the signal
strength increases nicely, but it misbehaves.

Your helpful web page http://ralphfowler.com says the
DWL-900AP+ can handle up to 30V. So maybe I should
just find a 9V or 12V wall wart?

  Alan
